Tony Guiao
2009 HAU Batch '71 President
Fellow Batch mates, HAU BATCH/71 USA exhibited another wonderful reunion at The Orleans Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. On behalf of HAU BATCH'71 USA, we THANK YOU for the revival of FRIENDSHIP, LOVE and LAUGHTER. For the Friday early arrivals, Rolly & Gloria-Palo-Yalung's residence in Henderson, Nevada, TUSCANY Hotel & Casino, Caesars Palace and the newly built ultra modern architecturally designed M Seafood Buffet were places of interests. Caesars Palace's "The Barge" with The Klique Band" formerly Jr. Madisons of Angeles City providing the entertainment was teeming with patrons. The East & West of HAU BATCH'71 USA exclusively occupied the upper section of the club, with many thanks to Luz Oviedo-Robinson for making the club area reservation. At around past 1:00 A.M., batch mates carefully slipped out of the club for a much needed snooze in anticipation of Saturday's events. Early Saturday morning, my party and I headed to the TUSCANY Hotel & Casino to meet with several batch mates who traveled from as far as New Jersey to as close as California. After several exchanges of hello, we proceeded by the poolside and started to flex our legs and muscles. We decided to practice bits of line dancing for the evening event. Benny Pitpitan unveiled quite few steps for the girls to follow minus the sound/music. Renato Dizon, the HAU BATCH's ballroom and line dancing wizard came later with his best friend, boom box to provide some sounds. Suddenly, more and more batch mates which included Sam & Dorothy Torres-Manaloto from the Philippines showed up to say hello. More dancing practices ensued with Lot Gamboa-Sigarlaki showing various swift line dancing moves. At around 1:00 P.M., we decided to leave the premises to prepare ourselves for the evening affair. Bernadette Palo-Guiao, Myrna Lapid-Cauguiran and yours truly arrived early at The Orleans for set up. Albert and Josie Diala from New York were the early arrivals at the venue. The ballroom was colorfully coordinated. As the time of the event fast approach, well dressed batch mates came in horde. The affair started promptly. Masters of Ceremony, Perri Yosuico looked very dapper in his black suit & Gloria Yalung-Venzon, look dazzling in her beautifully designed orange dress for the evening opened the festivities. As usual, batch mates and guests were well dressed for the occasion. After the singing of both the U.S. & Philippine National Anthems, a well worded invocation was said by Msgr. (wouldn't that be nice) Gil Enriquez before dinner was served. Past President Edith Pingul-Balanza introduced me as the new leader of our young organization. Mixed emotions engulfed my being as I approached the podium. As I thank God, I suddenly felt the confidence to send my message to the would be benefactors of our organization, HAU BATCH'71 USA. After bits & pieces of presentations, the main feature of the night followed.....DANCING! DANCING! & more DANCING!. Who said we're not getting any younger! Nonstop dancing was the menu for the night. Disco music courtesy of DJ Mario Venzon continued till our knees started sending the "slow down" message. Galore of camera flashes lit up the evening. I'm sure some of the pictures will look funny due to camera exposure voracity. Many of us were unsure which camera to stare at. I am quite positive, whichever angle we were looking, the pictures will bear beautiful results. Batch mates who served in the U.S. Armed Forces were also recognized at the event. The evening was a RIOT! HAU BATCH'71 USA squeezed the time until it hit midnight. Several batch mates opted to have an early steak and egg breakfast at the TUSCANY before retiring for the night.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
Dearest Batch Mates,
On behalf of the 2009-2010 HAU BATCH’71 USA Board Members, I am proud to announce our forthcoming get-together, “HAU BATCH’71 USA REUNION II” to be held on April 25-26, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
By tradition, we, (the Filipinos) tend to invest much of our time working to provide for our families and often times, without reservations and limitations. In the process, we have the propensity to forget or neglect the relaxation our bodies need.
On April 25-26, 2009, friends and classmates we have not seen in years, will once again converge in one place to reminisce the “good old days” of 38 years ago. Reunion One (I)and small get-together(s) rejuvenated our souls and those affairs were used as spring boards that ultimately created the bonding within the HAU BATCH’71 USA FAMILY.
REUNION II would like to welcome batch mates who participated during REUNION I, and extend the same gesture to those unable and the new U.S.A. arrivals.
Let’s continue the camaraderie and fellowship borne out of this organization founded in 2006.
Plan ahead and embrace this opportunity to mingle with our class mates circa 1971 in Las Vegas, the City that never sleeps.
Formal Invites to follow.
Please pass this initial reunion announcement to batch mates and friends.
Warm Regards,
Tony Guiao, Lead Member
HAU BATCH’71 USA

HAU Batch "71 & '72 Reunion
On behalf of the HAU BATCH '71 USA, our earnest appreciation to James & Myrna Yambao-Espiritu, Peter & Gloria Yalung-Venzon for hosting another high octane Southern California HAU BATCH '71 USA get-together. As scheduled, the early Saturday get together was held at the hilltop residence of James and Myrna Yambao-Espiritu in San Dimas, California.
James & Myrna were busy coordinating the preparation of the catered food and drinks when batch mates started arriving around high noon. The Espiritu's safe haven is so inviting from top to bottom. It's one place you would love to spend your time alone, sip a drink and take a dip at the pool with your heartthrob. The sound of the water emanating from the fountain is enough to cleanse your mind and body after a stressful day of work. From the pool, you can take a walk down the hills and enjoy the mini water canals or ponds crisscrossing below wooden and concrete mini bridges and stairs. From the looks of it, the garden is James' favorite place to unwind alone, just content in listening to the chirping of various birds that are abound.
Lunch was served as throngs of batch mates from Northern California, Los Angeles, San Diego and Las Vegas showed up. The event lived up to its Joint Get-Together billing when James batch mates from the Class of 1972 started arriving at sundown. Friends, go figure what goes on when batch mates from two HAU classes (1971 and 1972) meet. Galore of enjoyment ensued.
After a short memorial for Peter Valdes attended by his family, the class of 1971 batch mates started saying goodbyes and proceeded to Simi Valley for another round of late night pow wows at Peter & Gloria Yalung-Venzon's residence. Lo and behold, the Venzon's sanctuary was indeed ready to host another wild weekend marathon. The Venzon's were well prepared. The backyard was well decorated as if a gala event is about to happen. A custom made/printed HAU BATCH '71 USA banner is proudly hang atop the gazebo. Our Northern California batch mates (Edith Pingul-Balanza, Aida Timbol, Remy Siongco-Mejia (first time So Cal event attendee), Willie Baet and his ever unassuming wife Fran were the early birds (arrived Friday) at the Venzon's. At the invitation of Peter & Gloria, we (Precy Magsino-Pitpitan, Bernadette and myself) joined the early arrivals for a as usual sumptuous dinner heartily prepared by Gloria, ummmmm.... and Peter too.
HAU BATCH'71 USA's Saturday night was the beginning of another rounds of singing and chatting marathon. Upon our arrival in Simi Valley, once again, we were presented with galore of food personally prepared by Gloria. It was indeed a sight to see old and new friends once again enjoying each others company as we did during our previous California get-together. Revival at work! Guests were well prepared for a Saturday night sleep over at the Venzon's. A never ending amusements were showcased from Friday night until Sunday. After a weekend of laughter, its always difficult to conclude a get together and say good bye as evidence by the looks in our faces, cheerful but lonesome. As we, journey towards our golden years, our association with each other is truly a gift from God.
Both weekend parties were well documented as evidence by the flashes from cameras courtesy of amateurs and semi-pro photographers from both batches/classes.
Once again, thank you so much to the following for a wonderful weekend here in Southern California.

November 15, 2007 Posting: 2007 LA NAVAL MEETING BATCH71 PARTY Attendees: Southern California: Benny & Precy Magsino-Pitpitan –Hosts Northern California: Edith Pingul-Balanza Out of State: Fred & Mildred Bituin - Maryland
The 2007 La Naval invitation was sent by Pres. Edith on August 13, the theme being HAUBATCH71 Grand Adult Slumber party. Edith’s list of enthusiastic batch mates grew as the days drew nearer to the much awaited day, the 13th of October. After our successful grand reunion in Las Vegas, here was another day of full enjoyment and camaraderie, another excuse to get-together, to talk about old days, to keep up with current events and to meet with the other Angelenos in the traditional grand celebration of fiesta La Naval in Lynwood. We are grateful to Peter and GloriaYalung-Venzon for their thoughtful gesture in volunteering their home as venue for this event. We are most thankful to Benny and Precy Magsino-Pitpitan for stepping in as the venue changed to their lovely home in Burbank, Southern California. The NoCals and those outside of the state were guests in their home. We are mindful of the great deal of preparation that Precy did to receive us and of Benny who was stationed in the kitchen cooking his favorite recipes to feed the multitude. Salamat murin kang Tony and Bernadette who helped out in the menu preparation and cooking. There were new batch mates to meet for the first time in this gathering. Edith asked each one to stand, introduce self and explain how each got to know HAUBatch71. Alfredo Bituin who came with his wife, Mildred from Maryland stated that he just typed the name of Peter Valdes under search, and this led him to our website. Their vacation plans to visit relatives in Fairfield, NoCal was a great timing, indeed to include Batch71 party in their 5-day California itinerary. Marquita Quiambao from Glendale CA, Fernando Reyes and wife Evelyn from Chula Vista CA, also came; their exuberant presence complementing the lively group. A new-found batch mate, San Jose CA resident, Willy Baet brought his binder of pictures depicting his works on mural painting from renaissance to modern art. He graduated in Fine Arts from University of Santo Tomas. He is our Michaelangelo- type, painting not only on walls but on ceilings lying on his back. His work assignment takes him around US, Europe and Asia. He comes from a family of artists and is married to an artist. Pres. Edith announced to the group that she accepted the resignation of Frank Yabut. To replace him, Ener Cueva from Hercules, CA was unanimously chosen by the officers of HAUBATCH’71 and fellow batch mates as the new Vice Pres. of Northern California. “With great delight, we thank you, Ener, for accepting the position. You and your wife, Lolit, have been very actively involved in our group.” The other announcement was Edith’s plan for an April 2008 three-day cruise in Ensanada, Mexico for our group which was enthusiastically received. There will be more information about this on our next posting. (For those of you reading this, please reserve this month and plan your vacation well in advance; we can guarantee you now, that this will be the best ever –that is, the more participants, the merrier!) Just as usual, when the clicking of cameras begun, everyone scurried to pose. What a better way than to capture precious memories like these! The pictures posted here are a representation of our USA family that is continually growing. “Thanks, Carlos for the lively pictures. The party is not complete without you and your camera.” It takes teamwork, time, talent, dedication to hold events like these.” To our gracious hosts, Benny and Precy, we salute you both with great honor. To Madame President Edith, here is a toast for another successful well-planned reunion. For the non-Californians who flew all the way to join us, your presence was truly a gift. For those who did not make it this year, we look forward for your participation next year! |

Dear HAUBATCH ’71 Family,
First and foremost, I would like to extend a heartfelt appreciation to the members of the board, advisors and the committee members for exemplifying the meaning of teamwork. Everyone’s participation, cooperation and support during the year’s preparation made the HAUBATCH ’71 USA Grand Reunion in Las Vegas, Nevada a success-which far exceeded my expectations. In addition, entertainment-both impromptu and choreographed-was the best!
Much thanks to Peter and Precy Salunga-Kersten for opening their beautiful home and hosting the pre-reunion dinner. Kudos to all batch mates who were at the Kerstens to lend a hand during the pre-reunion dinner preparation.
And last but not least, thanks to Ojie Balleza who documented the entire proceedings, and all batch mates and families who in one way or another contributed to the success of the reunion.
Oh! Many thanks to Gloria Yalung-Venzon and Tony Guiao, the masters of ceremony as they skillfully added spices to the galore of entertainment which kept the crowd entertained.

A conference call was carried out on Monday, July 10, 2006 at 7 PM by the elected officers and advisory board at the request of the President. The following are the participants:
Pres. Edith, VP Perri, Sec. Remy, PROs Arnel and Carlos, Advisors- Tony and Gloria.
Failed attempts were made to contact the rest of the officers: VP- Frank, Treas. Ressie and PRO Lolita.
Successful telephone connection of the seven participants finally happened at 7:20 PM. What was agreed upon were:
1) Our main focus should be on the reunion itself as other members expected, with its foremost aim of growth in our group, bonding, unity and cohesiveness.
It so happen that the sudden rise of death information from the Phil chapter has sidetracked us from achieving first its organization.
The by-laws of the USA chapter still have to be worked upon and the issue of membership dues/fees, death
contributions to grieving families on a need basis will be addressed and be incorporated in here. So at this time, the latter needs have to wait and will be taken care of in due time (that is, perhaps after the grand reunion).
2) there will be no change on the reunion date of April 21-22, 2007 as agreed upon last July 1st LA meet.
3) Senen Dizon from Hayward, CA (NoCal) was nominated and appointed as Auditor. Again, geographical location as to proximity to the President and Treasurer was considered as important factor in the appointment.
The conference call ended at 8:30 PM. Sec Remy then called within that night, the other 3 absentee officers to relay the message, what was discussed and agreed upon. VP- Frank requested for another conference call with the officers' group this coming Saturday, July 15 at 12 noon.

Hello foreveryoung,
The NorCal meeting was a success story. Again, we had a blast. Like what Carlos described in one word the Southern Cal meeting was "WONDERFUL" and the Northern Cal meeting was "FABULOUS" considering we had less attendance than the South Cal meeting, me sakit ku atiyan and buntuk king ayli.
First, I would like to thank our host RESSIE DIZON who opened her home to welcome us and tolerated the noise that we created. But, I am sure she herself had a fantastic time. For our main course, we had buru, lagang balasenas, apalya, talbus camote, ningnang bangus and fried tilapia that our hostess prepared. Of course we had baguk and mangga - mapang etana capampangan. On top of these great food, we were singing and dancing, I think we almost sang all the songs that we know from the Karaoke list. A lot of story telling, reminiscing and etc... We were together for 12 hours and that was still not enough time. Imagine if we combined the North, South and out of towners? We will get escorted by the police.
Ressie, thanks for taking extra mile to pick me up and Lolita I thank you for driving me home, I really appreciate it. We were MASAYA! MASAYA! AND MASAYA! I am sure Carlos can verify the fun that we were having because he called us while we were in Sacramento.
Remy Balleza will post the minutes of our North Cal and South Cal meeting so as to set up the format for the nomination of officers.
